Wellington West continues to cement its status as one of Ottawa’s leading creative, fashion and culinary destinations.
There is truly nowhere else like it in the city: a one-of-a-kind neighbourhood where Hintonburg’s raw, grassroots arts scene blends seamlessly with the chic, Canadian-made boutique fashion of Wellington Village. Running through the middle is a legendary culinary strip serving everything from late-night eats to high-end dining.
The main street also recently received a major glow-up, with brilliant new string lighting installed on light poles throughout the district, adding nighttime safety and street vibrancy.
More street art is taking over the neighbourhood as well. A new gateway mural at PranaShanti is being led by the Urban Art Collective, while a vibrant Paint It Up project is underway at Parma Ravioli. A highly anticipated, whimsical goat art installation by local artist Daniel Martelock is also coming soon.
As you stroll through Hintonburg, you’ll see new artwork by local artist Martin Freundorfer at Earthen Vessels, as well as a selfie wall on the shipping container at Somerset Square. The square is also the home base of the Thursty Pedaler, a pedal-powered bike tour company.
The district continues to attract new independent businesses, including Hobbiesville in Wellington Village and Pony, Hintonburg’s new pasta bar.
Then there is the highly anticipated return of the neighbourhood’s signature event, Taste of Wellington — the world’s longest street festival — on Saturday, Sept. 19.
This year’s festival is set to be a showstopper, introducing After Taste, a nightlife series packed with interactive experiences, patio parties, live DJs and illuminated street entertainment.
