WEST 2016 preview: Stephen Frew

Stephen Frew – recently interviewed as part of KT’s Art Tag series – will debut with WEST this year, displaying his work at A Modern Space on 1116 Wellington. His home studio on Ross Avenue is currently under construction.

With a MFA in printmaking from Concordia, he has found it difficult to access a print studio and mostly draws or paints right now.

“My first love is figurative and portrait work on paper,” says Stephen, which is what he will be showing for WEST.

“What inspires me to make art is discovering lines and shapes within the human figure. I don’t have any deep conceptual meaning in my work. I simply love form. I want to create beautiful moving figures that are easy to understand… I’d rather my artwork be felt than thought,” says Stephen.
